APPLICATION BRIEF: eLEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

With the advent of the learning management system, faculty have been able to deliver supplemental materials to the Web in more ways than ever before. Nonetheless, there is still a need for being able to accurately and with as little time and effort as possible to import digitized images for student use. Many faculty would love to be able to place digital images reflecting their particular research interests on their Web sites for viewing and assessment by students but have neither the time nor the budget to do it. Now, itemright provides the means for them to be able to do just that.

With itemright, a faculty member may create topical and descriptive data guidelines which address student requirements for browsing and searching materials. With these specifications, teaching assistants or others may import the supplemental materials into the collection easily; apply the appropriate standards with descriptive metadata, and then quickly publish the results to the Web. This approach not only provides students with materials above and beyond what they would normally encounter in class but also saves valuable faculty time and labor. Later, when the faculty member wishes to update the materials, itemright will quickly and easily apply the necessary alterations to one object or an entire collection as required.
